There are many who swear by its power, but now it’s official: acupuncture can boost your chances of IVF success.

New research has found acupuncture can boost women’s chances of conceiving using IVF by six per cent.

The study was conducted by researchers at the IVF Cube in Prague, Czech Republic, who analysed data from 3271 women and nearly 4,400 cycles.

The sample group included women who used their own eggs as well as those who used donated eggs.

Acupuncture was performed on the women immediately before and straight after embryo implantation.

Out of the 4087 cycles without acupuncture, 2,458 pregnancies were recorded – a pregnancy rate of 60 per cent.

Out of the 301 cycles with acupuncture, there were 201 conceptions – a pregnancy rate of 66 per cent.

Acupuncture is a process whereby tiny needles are used to stimulate sensory nerves just under the skin and in the muscles of the body.

Researchers behind the study believe that acupuncture increases blood flow to the uterus, which makes it more receptive to the embryo transfer.
